PSEO options for Fall 2010 and Spring 2011 on-site at YEAH Academy in Roseville! Please contact YEAH@mtn.org
with questions.
A listing of
possible CARPOOL OPTIONS
will be available at The Academy office desk during
operating business hours when classes start in the
fall. Due to limitations in volunteer staff time and
availability (this list is being revised on a daily
basis between now the start of classes), carpool options cannot be provided via
phone or email prior to the start of classes after Labor
Day upon final compilation of all families on the YEAH Academy
roster. Thank you.
Parents
interested in finding carpool options should check
with the Site Manager on duty in the YEAH Academy
office to
look at the list. The list cannot leave the
YEAH office area.
Parents
are responsible for providing their own paper, for
writing down possible options and for contacting
those options independently on their own.
All
families enrolled at The Academy for Fall 2010 will
be included in the initial list; if a family wishes
their name and address not to be available for
carpool potential, they are responsible to talk to
Cher or Amy in person at The Academy and have
their name crossed off the list.
The YEAH
Academy and its staff and board members bear no
responsibility for connections made via this
listing, but only offers it as a service that has
been requested by our members.
Families
are encouraged to be creative and think
"outside of the box" regarding carpool
options. e.g. a family might not be exactly in your
neighborhood, but you could arrange to meet at an
easily accessible, safe, common spot such as a fast
food restaurant, etc.
Families
are encouraged to observe caution and be aware of
all aspects of carpooling, including who will be the
driver of the carpool, if an adult will be in the
car or if teen-agers will be primary drivers.
A
Display MAP of the immediate Roseville area with listings of some of
the potential spots and services our families might want
to utilize while their students are in class is now available
in the hall outside the YEAH Academy office during YEAH
Academy business hours.
This
list includes areas to shop and eat
This
list includes libraries, parks and playgrounds etc. where
parents can continue the home education of their
children while others are in class.
This
display map
is for parents who want to continue to home educate
their other children while siblings are in Academy
classes.
This
display map
is for teens who drive
themselves to The Academy and have permission to go
off site while not enrolled in a class.
We
welcome additions to this posting with some spot you
think might be of interest to others. Please see the
Site Manager on duty.

Each YEAH member has a member
code that reflects their current and past membership level.
Where?
A code # is located on the address label of
your current fuchsia catalog, after your name.
What?
"Y" = YEAH member;
"YA"
=
Academy member for current or this past year;
"R"
= Renewing
member - or - "N"= New member for
current year;
Following this is a
sequence of four numbers that reflect your membership
history with YEAH. If your membership lapsed for one
or more years, this # will reflect when you last rejoined
YEAH.
The first two numbers
are the year of your original membership.
i.e. "00"
= your continuous membership began in 2000.
i.e. "07"
= your continuous membership began in 2007.
The last two numbers
are the year of your most recent membership.
"09"
at the end = memberships for last year 2009-2010.
"10"at
the end = memberships for the upcoming year 2010-11.
e.g.
"YAR0210" = YEAH Academy Renewed member from
2002 through fall of 2010. This membership is/was at the
$45.00 level.
e.g.
"YN0909" = YEAH New member for the year starting
fall 2009. It has not been renewed for the upcoming
year. This membership is/was at the $15.00 level.
How
does my code affect my registration for Academy
classes?
Priority
registration is given for
longevity with YEAH; older students have priority over younger students; and those who
have met Academy course sequence prerequisites will
also have priority within The Academy categories.
When?
Important
registration data below

the end may register for Fall 2010 classes.
Families
must be YEAH Academy members to register for The Academy

YEAH members are given 2nd

WHY Join YEAH?
YEAH membership entitles your
family to receive discounted rates for workshops, events and registration
(typical savings of $2.00 to $15.00 person for workshops, PLAN testing, skiing and
other events.)
YEAH Academy membership provides
priority status for registration for courses at The Academy and may make the
difference if a student is able to enroll in a desired class.
Continuous YEAH
membership (without lapses) accumulate and "count" when it matters
for participation in member-only events such as YEAH Commencement Ceremony
and placement in high-demand Academy courses.
YEAH membership fees cover
expenses for services enjoyed by all: website management; sponsorship of
events; workshops; college fairs; testing services; etc. services that are
open to and enjoyed by all home educators.
YEAH membership ensures that
YEAH's high quality services will continue to be available to the home
school community now and into the future.
Why should
you maintain your membership in YEAH?
If
you answer YES to one of the following statements, the
following information is for you!
Our
family situation has changed and we do not plan to take
Academy courses this year.
Our
family is not sure what our future plans are regarding the
education of our family; we may or may not continue to
home educate.
Our
youngest is taking full time PSEO.
We'd
like to keep our options open for graduations
opportunities, but are not sure what we'll do when that
time comes.
We
plan to take Academy classes next year, but not this year.
We
might like to attend the homeschool college fair in
January.
We
might like to go skiing with YEAH at Trollhaugen this
winter.
We
might be interested in taking some adult education
workshops to help us home educate through high school and
beyond
We
are supportive of the service YEAH offers the homeschool
community and would like to see it continue into the
future.
Read on:
1)
For you . . . keeping your membership updated will
allow you priority registration and could make a difference
when you least expect it. This could include occasions
such as several years from now when your child decides he/she
would like to graduate with YEAH and your
on-and-off-and-only-used-as-needed-membership history put her
at the bottom of the wait list (unfortunately, that time will
come all too soon!). Or, for example, she did not get
into a class you really wanted her to take because your
registration was held up due to seniority issues and a history
of lapsed memberships. Both of these scenarios occur more
often then I would like to think.
2)
For you . . . the $15.00 annual family sustaining
membership can easily be recouped if you only attend a couple
of adult education workshops (there is a savings of
$10.00/couple/workshop for YEAH members who attend the
workshops) or decide to take the family skiing with YEAH
($2.00 savings per person for YEAH members).
3)
For you . . . by keeping your family updated in our
data base, when you do decide to enroll in classes again, it
can easily be switched on and updated. You will not have
to start over from scratch as you would have to as a First
Time User. This can save you a lot of time and should be well
worth the $15.00 investment now.
4)
For the entire homeschool community and for YEAH . . .
in the larger picture your membership helps support the
efforts of YEAH now and in the future as we strive to come
along side of home educating parents homeschool their teens.
YEAH as an organization is a lot more than just classes at The
Academy. It offers services to the entire homeschool
community such as sponsorship of the Homeschool College Fair,
adult education workshops, PLAN testing services, and
development of new programs such as our recent PSEO
partnership with NCU, etc. which benefit everyone both now and
in the future. Membership fees go towards the continuing
management of things such as the three websites, product
development to keep on the cutting edge of technology and
services for our members, etc. to help insure that if and when
you do decide to utilize YEAH’s services, the organization
will still be alive and well -- and will continue to be there
for you.
Thank you for the opportunity to continue to serve you as you
home educate your children.
PSEO
College at YEAH update for 2010-2011:
February, 2009, YEAH began actively working with a local community
college toward a program for YEAH to offer their college
classes taught on site at YEAH Academy
with PSEO courses taught by YEAH tutors who
would be hired as adjunct
professors. We were in the final
stages, when in mid-April, it quickly became
apparent that YEAH and the community college
had different
agendas, and both of us must remain true to
our standards and goals. There was an
obvious conflict of philosophies and
objectives between the two organizations.
Our core values are irrefutable.
Therefore, YEAH discontinued all discussion, plans and
proceedings regarding a partnership for
this program.
God
immediately opened the door for YEAH to work with North
Central University, a Christian university in downtown
Minneapolis. This program was confirmed and unanimously
approved on April 30, 2009. Details about this
partnership and program are on the PSEO
at YEAH link.
PSEO
Open House was held in April 2010.
Representatives from NCU as well as the YEAH adjunct
professors of PSEO courses were present to provide
information and answer questions.
This notice is to clarify rumors
that have circulated over the past few years regarding the future of YEAH and
The Academy. If you have questions, direct them
personally to the Executive Director of YEAH and The
Academy at YEAH@mtn.org.
Thanks.
The Academy classes plan to remain on the current track through the
foreseeable future at its present location in
Roseville.
YEAH and The Academy are not starting any satellite classes at any other church or location - nor are we discussing such plans with any individuals or groups.
YEAH plans to remain on its current course - which includes plans for
continued YEAH Commencement Ceremonies and the
renewed YEAH Booksale.
Options for the future growth of YEAH and The Academy
are being actively explored and will be posted on this website and the YEAH website
www.ouryeah.org when things are more definite. This
includes the option of pursuing a larger location
site dedicated to YEAH to accommodate our growth.
PSEO classes offered on site at Bethany and taught by
qualified Academy tutors who are also adjunct
professors through North Central University! (Fall 2009)
Updates
will be posted on the Home Page of both websites as
needed for schedule changes and closures due to bad weather
or church funerals
POLICY for Schedule
changes:
SNOW DAYS or BAD
WEATHER
CHURCH FUNERALS
Please exercise safety and
caution in traveling.
WHEN are
decision made regarding schedule changes?
Updates for cancellations or schedule changes for The YEAH Academy
at Bethany Church are determined by The Academy
Administrators
They will be posted on both the YEAH and
The Academy websites by 11:00 PM the night prior to the
Snow Day
Email messages will be sent to all Academy
families.
Typically, schedules are changed/modified rather
than for classes to be cancelled.
Families are to make decisions
based on the ultimate safety of their students and
drivers
HOW are
decisions determined regarding schedule changes?
Because our students come from a hundred mile radius in
every direction, weather and roads can be dangerous is
some areas and perfectly safe in others.
Families are urged to make decisions
based on the ultimate safety of their students and
drivers.
Tutors will understand if they cannot attend or
are late due to weather related delays.
Website or Email
postings are not possible during the day due to lack
access to internet connections at the church,
Parents, please be available
if your students contact you with an altered afternoon
schedule should weather turn.
SAFETY FIRST
The safety of our students and their families should
take top priority. Please consider this when
deciding whether to travel in hazardous
conditions.
Our families drive to The Academy
classes from a radius of 1.5 hours in any
direction. Depending on the tracking of any storm,
it will obviously affect some students more than
others.
If weather looks questionable, please
check the websites and your Email for updates before
heading out.
CHURCH FUNERALS
Schedule
changes for Church Funerals which
conflict with YEAH use of the facility will be posted
on both YEAH websites as soon as they are known
Email
messages will be sent to all Academy members.
Check your Email
routinely prior to coming for classes.
